Of all the fashion weeks we cover around the world, it’s Tokyo’s street style that never disappoints. Tokyo’s buzzy schedule—which includes Kozaburo, Hare, Tae Ashida, and Hyke this season, among others—draws editors and stylists from all over the world, but the locals we’re seeing on the streets are easily the most experimental fashion fans. If you liked the minimalism of New York, London, Milan, and Paris, Tokyo will change your mind; here it’s all about wild prints, statement-making accessories, and multicolored hair. Kira of TokyoFashion.com is shooting all of the best looks through the photos below, and check back for daily updates.
There were the one-off statements, such as brows painted a deep fuchsia to pop against flicks of lemon yellow eyeliner, braids intricately woven with different shades of neon yarn, and perm-style ringlets fashioned into a retro quiff. And then there were the distinct trends: High-voltage dye jobs, from a shock of lime green to ends dipped in turquoise for an ombré effect; gazes draped in vivid rouge; pops of pink lip color against luminous complexions; monochrome washes of color, like burgundy, on the eyes, lips, and cheeks; and cool, choppy cuts that perpetuated the abbreviated length fever of fashion month. Here, all the must-see hair and makeup looks from the beauty trailblazers of Japan’s capital.
